Let’s Go Exploring
Dear friends of Hilton Baptist Church,
As many of you know I am a fan of Calvin and Hobbes. In fact one HBC family gave me a Calvin and Hobbes book for Christmas. I think [a recent] comic strip is appropriate for our church. Hobbes the tiger says, “Everything familiar has disappeared! The world looks brand-new!” To which Calvin replies, “A New Year…a fresh clean start!”
Indeed it is a New Year, a new start for Hilton Baptist. The past is behind us and we have the opportunity to explore new possibilities. The choice is ours. We can stay inside where it is warm, familiar and safe or we can go into the new world together. We can focus on our problems or we can focus on our possibilities but we can’t do both.
I plan on following the example Calvin and Hobbes. I want to look at the New Year as a big white sheet of paper that God has given us to draw on. I want to grab a few friends and see a day full of possibilities.
